Meet Our Members!

Jan Taylor - Lead

I have been a musician almost all my life, with seventeen years of training as a classical pianist followed by five years of vocal training, and lots of years of dance (ballet, jazz, and a little tap). Prior to joining Red RockAppella in 2011, my only public singing was recitals, my wedding, and around campfires. I am also on the board of directors of the Benefactors of Red Rock State Park and the Grand Canyon River Runners Association.

My hobbies are hiking, kayaking, white water rafting, and knitting. Since joining RRA, I have served on the board as membership chair, recording secretary, show chair, and acting president.

I have lived in Sedona since the year 2000, moving from Southern Arizona, growing up in Scottsdale. I participated in school choral and theatrical groups, developing a love for music at an early age. After graduating from Coronado High School I attended Mesa Community College, majoring in English and Psychology and taking classes at Phoenix College and ASU.  I traveled in Europe for a year in 1969 and 1970 experiencing other cultures and singing folk songs and some rock and roll with friends I met along the way.
I joined Red Rockapella in 2012 and have enjoyed the musical experience of singing with a wonderful group of ladies who share a love of music.

Sue Buffum - Bari

I grew up in Rhode Island, graduating from Brown University with a BA in mathematics and economics, followed by an MBA in finance from the University of Connecticut. I relocated from New Jersey to the beautiful red rocks of Sedona in June 2017, after a 40+ year career as an investment professional.

My musical experience includes singing in my church choir in New Jersey. Prior to that I sang in the choirs of the First Baptist Church of West Hartford, Connecticut, and Calvary Baptist Church in Providence, Rhode Island. I sang in the mixed chorus in junior high but opted to play in the band instead once I got to high school.

I love traveling, golfing, biking, and hiking, and when I’m not doing those things—or singing—I volunteer at the library and am still in the process of renovating my house.

Sharon Madison - Lead

My music background consists of singing in my church and school choirs while growing up in upstate New York and singing in a women’s a cappella group in college. Over the years I have sung in various school and community musicals as well as performing “on the road” with my a cappella group in Bermuda.

Once I left college, I did not sing with a group until I moved to Sedona, where I became a charter member of Red RockAppella in 2006. I have held various positions in the chorus from music committee, to section leader, to team leader. I have also written most of the show scripts for our annual performances. I am willing to serve on the team although I am frequently (and literally) “on the trail.”

PattyH

Patty Hoisch - Bass

Patty Hoisch started music lessons early in life and played cello in school and community orchestras and chamber music for many years.

Patty’s songwriting and arranging also came early and resurfaced in the last twenty years. Her latest group, Yarrow, includes her husband Tom on cello, good friend Patricia on djembe and vocals, with Patty on guitar and vocals. Together they create original music and put their own stamp on interesting covers, blending classical technique with folk, blues, rock are more.

Patty joined the Red RockAppella Chorus in January 2017. She enjoys the camaraderie, singing, and continued musical education from participating in the group. Because she loves diverse types of music, Barbershop offers Patty a brand new genre to explore

Pat Stinson - Lead

I'm from PA, /NJ and moved to Lake Havasu 2 1/2 years ago to be near family, but it was too hot! Moved to Cottonwood in October of 2017. I spent 27 years in the hotel industry all over the US.

I started reading music at 8 years old taking piano lessons. My dad sang bass in the church choir and I sang in that same church choir when I retired. I sang with "Voice On The River" Chorus in Bullhead City for two winter seasons and sang with the barbershop group "Colomondes" in Lake Havasu.

I saw a tiny ad in "Kudos" about Red Rockappella. I called Sandy and learned about their Holiday gig at Tlaquepaque. That was IT! I love the fellowship. It's therapy for me!
